How to add chapters to a YouTube video

Three steps, all from the YouTube link.

  1. Paste the link

    Create a free account at Video Chapter Express and paste your video’s YouTube link.

  2. Get your chapters

    The transcript is read for you. Chapters, a description and title options appear on your results page.

  3. Paste into YouTube Studio

    Copy the chapters into the video’s description in Studio and save. YouTube splits the progress bar for you.

YouTube’s three rules for chapters

If one is missed, YouTube shows no chapters at all. Video Chapter Express follows all three.

    Start at zero

    The first timestamp must be 00:00.

  • 3+

    At least three

    Fewer than three chapters and the bar stays whole.

  • 10 s

    Ten seconds each

    Every chapter must last ten seconds or more.
